Osho Sannyas (Neo-Sannyas)
The old sannyas had become totally irrelevant in the modern world. At this critical time, Osho felt that Sannyas should be given a new life, a new vision, a new consciousness. During his meditation camp in Manali, in the Himalayas, while talking on the divine playfulness of Lord Krishna, his total acceptance of life in all its colours, Osho ushered a new era of Neo-Sannyas by initiating the first group of youthful meditators on 26 September 1970. Since then the fresh breeze of sannyas and its meditative and affirmative playful lifestyle has been sweeping the whole world.
Osho Neo-Sannyas is a total discontinuity with the rotten past. It transcends all the boundaries–caste, colour, creed, and nations. It heralds the New Man.
There are no rules or beliefs associated with Neo-Sannyas – the only requirement is a personal commitment to meditation. The robes and mala are to remind the person of their commitment to a new way of life. Also, a new name is given as a device to leave behind the past and, in particular, the attachment to old identity. Osho says “My concept of sannyas is totally different or, rather, totally contrary to the old concept of sannyas. The old concept of sannyas is one of withdrawing oneself from the world. My concept is that of just taking an inner attitude without any outward withdrawal. You remain in the world, you go on working as you were working, but now you are not serious about it. Now it is just an act. You are in the middle of a drama, that’s all.
There is no need to withdraw — I discourage any withdrawal because if you are not seriously involved in the world, you can be in it and above it.
So be in the world but do not allow the world to be in you.That is sannyas.”

It is best to take Osho Neo-Sannyas during Osho meditation camps held in various cities where you are doing meditation for a couple of days and you are in a group energy of celebration. During the initiation, you receive the Osho mala and a certificate with your new spiritual name, symbolizing your inner journey and commitment to conscious living.
